Sacramento goes months without real rain, and the first storm of the season always catches people off guard &mdash; not because they're bad drivers, but because months of oil and grime built up on the road turns into the slickest driving surface of the entire year the moment it gets wet.<\/p>\n        <p>We see it every fall. A run of fender-benders in the first week of real rain, almost always in the same handful of spots around town. So this issue leads with that, plus a quick five-point check you can do yourself before the weather turns. In Sacramento, it's usually the opposite. Months of dry weather let oil, rubber, and grime build up on the asphalt. The first rain lifts all of it to the surface before it has a chance to wash away, turning ordinary roads into something closer to a skating rink for the first hour or two of rainfall.
