Rippers Body Shop is a family-owned auto body and paint shop at 2435 W Capitol Ave in West Sacramento. We restore faded and failing paint, repair and reshape body panels, and paint whole cars for enthusiasts in West Sacramento, Davis, Woodland and the greater Sacramento area.

What we can do for your car
Full repaints and color changes
Back to the original color or on to something new. We work from factory paint codes for original finishes and mix custom colors for builds.
Paint restoration
Faded, oxidized, peeling or cracked paint is sanded back to a sound surface and refinished, so the fix holds up.
Body modifications
Reshaped panels, smoothed surfaces and custom fabrication for builds. We also shorten frames and convert long-bed trucks to short beds.
Dent and panel repair
Dings, creases and crushed sheet metal are pulled and shaped straight, then finished smooth so they disappear under paint.
Rust and metal repair
Rotted metal is cut out and replaced with solid steel, then sealed and primed so rust doesn’t come back through new paint.

Inside the booth
Great paint is decided before the color goes on. These cars are in our booth at the stage where the metal is straight, the primer is down and the details get locked in.
Primer hides nothing. Every low spot, scratch and wave shows up, which is why we look at it so hard before any color goes on.
How a Rippers paint job works

Look it over
You bring the car in. We go over it panel by panel, hear what you want and give you a free estimate.

Fix the metal
Dents, rust and damage are repaired or replaced first. Paint can’t hide bad bodywork for long.

Prime and straighten
Primer is built up and sanded until the panels are flat and the lines are right. This is the stage in the photos above.

Mask and paint
The car is masked and painted in our booth, which keeps dust off the finish while it goes on.

Check and hand back
We walk the car with you and hand over the keys when you’re happy with it.
Bring the plan, or the pile of ideas
Original or custom
A numbers-matching restoration and a full custom build call for different thinking. Tell us which one you’re after and we’ll work toward it.
Finish and color
Gloss, satin or matte. Factory color or something nobody else has. We’ll go over what each choice means for cost and upkeep.
Honest advice
If a panel is better replaced than repaired, or a car isn’t worth the money you’re about to put into it, we’ll tell you.

How much does a paint restoration or repaint cost?

How long will my car be in the shop?
It depends on how much bodywork the car needs and what is in the booth ahead of yours. A straight repaint moves faster than a restoration with rust repair and panel work. You get a realistic timeline with your estimate.
Do you work on classic and custom cars?

Can you match my car’s original paint color?
In most cases, yes. We can work from the factory paint code, or match a sample panel when the original color has aged. You can also pick something new. Bring the car in and we’ll go over the options.
What’s the difference between paint restoration and a repaint?
Paint restoration brings back a finish that has faded, oxidized, peeled or failed, often on a car that is otherwise original. A repaint replaces the finish, sometimes in a new color, after any needed bodywork. We’ll tell you which one your car needs when we see it.
