The River Cats are wrapping up their season, Farm-to-Fork weekend is almost here, and Sacramento's first fall rain is coming for good. If your ride's been waiting on a few things before its next show or cruise night, this is the window. Here's what's on our lift right now, plus a checklist to get your own vehicle show-ready before the weather turns.
Cruise season doesn't end all at once. It runs out.
Nobody wakes up one September morning and decides cruise season is over. It just quietly runs out of weekends. The River Cats close out their home schedule this month, Farm-to-Fork Festival takes over downtown one more time before fall settles in, and somewhere in the next few weeks, Sacramento gets its first real rain of the year. After that, garage time replaces cruise time for a while.
That makes September the actual homestretch for anyone with a project that's almost ready, or a daily cruiser that's been due for some attention all summer. We've got one of those projects on our own lift right now.

Where This Build Stands
This '87 Fox-body convertible is fully masked and staged in our paint booth right now — panels straight, everything covered and taped clean, ready for color. Getting to this point is most of the actual work; a clean mask and straight panels are what make the paint itself look right once it goes down. We'll share the full before-and-after once this one's out of the booth.
The 5-point show-ready checklist.
You don't need a full restoration to show up looking sharp. These are the things that actually get noticed — and the ones worth handling before the weather turns and everything slows down for the season.

Paint Correction & Swirl Removal
Months of sun, dust, and quick washes leave swirl marks that flatten out an otherwise good paint job. A proper correction brings the depth back without a full respray.

Trim, Badges & Chrome
Faded trim and cloudy chrome age a car faster than almost anything else. These are small fixes that make a big difference in photos and in person.

Dents, Dings & Door Ding Touch-Ups
The parking-lot dings you've been ignoring all summer are easier to fix now, before wet weather and holiday parking lots add a few more to the pile.

Convertible Top Condition
If you're running a convertible or T-top, check the seals and fabric now. Small leaks are a minor fix in September and a bigger problem once the rain actually arrives.

Glass & Windshield Chips
A small chip that's been fine all summer can spread fast once temperatures start swinging between cold mornings and warm afternoons. Get it looked at before it turns into a full crack.

Is it worth getting bodywork done before winter, or should I wait until spring?
Fall is actually one of the better times. Shops tend to book up fast once the holidays and rainy-season accidents hit, and dry conditions in September and early October make paint and bodywork easier to schedule and complete without weather delays.
Can convertible top leaks cause body damage?
Yes. Water that gets past worn seals can sit against interior panels and metal longer than it takes to notice, which is how small leaks turn into rust or interior damage over a wet season. It's worth checking seals before the rain starts, not after.
